I own a commercial goat herd with over 150 goats and this book is only of limited value for me. Don't get me wrong the book has merit but not to the degree others have posted. I'll go over some of the reasons I don't love it. For starters, several of the most common diseases like Enterotoxemia, Listeriosis and Polyench have very little useful information. For example: under the Enterotoxemia Treatment there is ONE sentence and it basically says that if a goat gets it - it dies. Thus far, I've successfully treated one goat that had what I believe to be enterotoxemia and I'm currently treating another one that I think will make it. I have lost more goats to this disease though. And in case you are wondering, yes, the goats have been vaccinated according to recommendations (but not the recommendations in the book because that is another issue to be covered soon...) however the vaccine is not 100% effective. Secondly, the book briefly mentions type D enterotoxemia but says nothing about type C. In fact, less than 1 full page is given to this disease. Regardless of whether you are a vetererinary student or a producer this is a common disease and more information would be appreciated. Last, under the Prevention heading it recommends giving C&D antitoxin to newborn kids. Giving the antitoxin to a newborn kid would counteract a vaccine protocol that vaccinates does in their last 30 days of pregnancy. On the positive side it does provide an overview of spectrum of disease that affect goats. This book may be fine for veterinary students but its value is not that high for a producer.

Need my vet handy or a veterinary medical dictionary but much of it is easy to read and so informative. I've raised sheep for over 20 years, thousands of them, and I am shocked at how much I've learned in just a few pages. Well worth it for the person with a few hundred head of sheep.

Good book, fairly comprehensive, and easy to read. Anyone who owns goats or sheep needs this book, given that veterinarians who know much about small ruminants are hard to come by. You're better off educating yourself. The book is also very glossy and sturdy, which I appreciate because I'm hard on books.

This is a straightforward book that has more information than the sheep and goat guides geared for lay people. A lot of small flock folks have vets who don't do much sheep medicine, or it is geared for large commercial flocks. So it is very helpful to be able to be able to have the information you need to make decisions about problems in the flock that may differ from a commercial sheep grower's decision about an individual animal.I might be a little odd, but I read the whole book and enjoyed it.

This is the best textbook available on small ruminant veterinary medicine. It should be on the shelf of any vet that treats sheep or goats. Producers can also learn a lot from this book.

This book is well written. It answers a great deal of questions not addressed in other goat and sheep raising manuals. It is a veterinary text, but a layperson should be able to understand it quite well.

For a person that needs a great guide and learning tool to keep your heed healthy. I've been raising goats for 9 years and this book is invaluable to me

Really good up to date information and lots that is hard to find elsewhere. Goats and sheep are valuable in all countries so this book is valuable for just about anyone who cares for these animals. They are economic necessities for many people and can also be kept just as pets. Valuable book for all veterinarians and others working in this area.
