terrific go-to book. Sure, tastes vary. But this guy's appeal isn't that he knows whiskey; it is that he is an enthusiast and not a snob. He rates cheap whiskeys as enthusiastically as rare masterpieces (Old GrandDad bourbon BIB is 94, so are many Pappy Van Winkles). $44 Ardbeg 10 year old was whiskey of the year a few years back. Hey, you may disagree, but he's not there to dis or snub stuff; he will criticize when necessary but his ratings are a terrific and entertaining starting place to figure out where to part with your well earned $$.Why not four stars? Well, the print is miniscule. And there' s no index, so sometimes it is hard to find a whiskey if the name is different from the distillery. And there are occasional omissions, which he acknowledges in his introduction; he just can't rate 'em all, but I still wonder, say, why Rebel Yell's bourbon from 2018 which was one of the whiskey's of the year from Whiskey Advocate wasn't mentioned. Not that I really am troubled by that, but just curious.Nonetheless, this is a great book to read, to receive and to give as a gift. Get it for your whiskey drinking friends.

The font size is small making it difficult to read and follow. No index is included and the varieties are not organized, making it difficult to find specific brands and varieties. Each review is detailed in a different format and many have incomplete or partial information. He uses lots of abbreviations, which makes it confusing. Definitely not a clear, concise, organized review on each. Many brands were missed or incomplete with not all varieties included. No photos of any labels or any mention of general cost for each. I did feel his grading and overall choices were spot on. So his overall general grading system is okay. Seen other better Whiskey review books.

Tremendous depth of information in a very matter-of-fact tone. A great resource for evaluating your collection and adding new bottles. One star deduction for inexplicably small print. IMO they could have kept it pocketbook size and upsize the print a tad. Almost impossible to read in low light.

Great info for anyone interested in learning more about their favorite rot gut, but the font is so small it renders the book almost unusable. If you buy it, make sure you have a good set of cheaters.

While not quite the 'bible' of all things whiskey, it provides a good insight of the years whiskies. Like all things, it is just one persons opinion, rather than a conglomeration of the many.

Did not include Okd Fitzgerald Bourbon or Okd Overholt Rye, but just great coverage in general. Bought every year for ten years!
